A single 100g (3.5oz) portion of acai contains 3g of fiber, or 12% of the daily value for fiber. A 400g (14oz.) bowl of pure açai, therefore, provides about half of one’s daily fiber requirement. Not bad for a fruit known for its antioxidants and heart-healthy fats.

Açai is also high in anthocyanins, potent antioxidants that protect us from the harmful effect of free radicals by helping to prevent cell damage.

Açai is also high in antioxidants, specifically anthocyanin. The antioxidant capacity of açai is quite remarkable: a single 100g (3.5oz) portion contains an ORAC value of more than 6,000, enough to last you the day!

To add to this, açai is gluten-free, caffeine-free, and cholesterol-free, with only two grams of carbohydrates in one cup. It also has almost no salt or natural sugars.

Acai Puree vs. Acai Powder

Acai puree or acai powder are two primary ingredients that may be used to make an acai bowl. The most frequent smoothie shop uses frozen acai berries blended with acai puree, which is then frozen.

The easiest way to consume your puree is to put it in the freezer for one hour. It’s available in bags filled with single-serving pouches in the frozen food section of supermarkets. Simply soak the single-serving packet in boiling water for 30 seconds, as shown below. Place all of these ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth

You can also use acai powder in place of acai puree if you can’t locate it at your local market. If you want to stay with the same amount of liquid, add 1-2 scoops of acai powder instead of the acai puree.

You’d think they’re blueberry or grape because of how similar they look, yet in my opinion, they have a distinct flavor that’s comparable to a mix of pomegranates and raspberries combined with beets.

Why make a smoothie bowl and not a regular smoothie?

For some reason, everyone goes down the smoothie bowl route with acai berries. So is there a reason for this?

A mix n’ go smoothie is my favorite. They’re convenient and quick, and they’re packed with nutrients. However, smoothie bowls are excellent since some individuals prefer to eat their breakfast rather than drink it, and because the mixture is thicker than a regular smoothie, healthy toppings can be added (such as granola, fresh fruit, coconut shreds, Goji berries and even chia seeds or sliced almonds).

While those are my reasons for smoothie bowls, you may easily convert it into a normal smoothie by using less yoghurt and some juice. An acai smoothie is still a fantastic option!

What You Need to Make an Acai Berry Smoothie Bowl

  • ¾ cup yoghurt of your choice (Greek yoghurt is recommended)
  • 3½ ounces acai fruit puree (frozen or refrigerated)
  • ½ cup frozen berries (blueberries or strawberries work great)
  • ½ medium banana, preferably frozen
  • ¼ cup coconut water or other liquid
  • 2 tablespoons berries of your choice

Add the ingredients to a blender or smoothie maker and blitz until mixed. If the mixture needs a little extra liquid, add more coconut water but remember, you don’t want it to be too liquidy for a smoothie bowl. Add the toppings and serve.

You can also use other toppings, like chia seeds, fruit, shredded coconut or granola on top. Almond flakes also work great!
